Everyone’s favorite construction consultant, Mike Holmes, answers a few questions. (canada.com)
Southampton – Mike Holmes, star of “Holmes on Homes” on HGTV and other programs has just released a new magazine to launch this month. Holmes graciously took a few minutes from his busy schedule to answer a few questions from his female fans, as well as offer some sound advice on home improvement.Congratulations on the new magazine and as our favorite Canadian – do you plan to work or consult on any homes in the U.S.?
Mike Holmes: Thank you – we’re really proud of the magazine and how well it’s doing. We’ve done a couple of jobs in the U.S. already – one in Pasadena, CA for an episode of “Holmes on Homes,” as well as the first house in the rebuilding of the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans. You can see that in the “Holmes in New Orleans” series. I’d love to do more projects in the U.S. – ideally in different climates. That would interest me – seeing how to build sustainably in different zones, with different extreme weather. So far we’ve done seismic and hurricane resistant houses. But I’ve always wanted to come to Kansas and piss off a tornado!
Every man in our office wants to know how they can get the same reaction from females as you warrant?
MH: I’m not sure how to answer that one! It’s a little embarrassing, really. The homeowners we help out are so grateful and some are in pretty desperate situations. I think everyone just appreciates being helped out of a problem – so, maybe that’s a start. Or, you could buy some overalls!
Doing upgrades to your home? Do them right by taking advice from Mike Holmes…….from HGTV!
