HUNTINGTON BEACH (AP) — It’s official: Surf City U.S.A. is swallowing up the 85-acre unincorporated neighboring community of Sunset Beach.
The Orange County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 23 unanimously approved Huntington Beach’s annexation of the coastal community. The Huntington Beach City Council had originally voted to annex Sunset Beach back in August.
A consultant study indicated to the county that annexation is financially feasible and is expected to bring in at least $624,000 in property, sales and occupancy taxes.
The Sunset Beach Community Association, a band of residents resisting annexation, had managed to delay what Supervisor John Moorlach called “the inevitable.”
Huntington Beach and Sunset beach are set to merge into one city within the next month!
