Tomorrow is Dec. 1 and for most of us the shopping has begun!
If you are one of those organized, plan-ahead-type folks whose shopping is already done, you don’t have to read this column. However, if you have someone on your list who loves to cook and enjoys the latest in tools, books and foodstuffs, this column is for you.
I’ve gone through my favorite catalogs, checked on new recipe books and searched the web for gifts extraordinaire. Here are my recommendations for gifts for your favorite cook.
There are those among us who read a good cookbook like a novel. There are also folks who constantly thumb though cookbooks to find a new treat for family and friends. There are several new volumes that deserve a place on a dedicated reader’s or chef’s shelves. Here are my favorites of the recently published and they are available at your favorite local bookseller.
“Nigella Kitchen – Recipes from the Heart of the Home” by Nigella Lawson is the latest offering from one of my favorite celebrity chefs. It is a work that is divided into two sections – “Kitchen Quandaries” including chapters titled “Off the Cuff” and “Hurry Up I’m Hungry” for those times when you need good food to feed your family in the midst of a very busy schedule and “Kitchen Comforts” with a chapter on “The Solace of Stirring” when you have time to spend creating a masterpiece. Nigella’s passion for good food shines through all of her books and she writes a good read as well as a good reference for a “practical yet elegant cook.”
Cool new article discussing great cookbooks for the chef in the family! This article gives great ideas on which cookboooks are the best ones to buy!
